Noise

Smooth 2D noise with fractal octaves. Returns a value between 0 and 1 — organic, non-repeating variation that looks natural.

Block

Parameters

X
X coordinate input (e.g. t, s, or normS for along-path variation).
Y
Y coordinate input (e.g. normZ for height variation).
freq
Base frequency — higher values produce finer detail.
octaves
Number of fractal layers (1–8). More octaves = more organic detail.

How it works

Noise generates smooth, coherent pseudo-random values using value noise with bilinear interpolation and fractal Brownian motion (FBM). Unlike sin which produces regular waves, noise creates irregular, natural-looking variation — perfect for organic textures, rough surfaces, and hand-thrown pottery effects. The output is deterministic (same inputs always produce the same value) and controlled by the program seed.
