Soft Spots

Gentle hillocks of light. Soft Spots scatters circles with smooth radial gradient falloff across your surface -- each one a soft bump that fades gracefully to flat. Think of raindrops on a still pond frozen in time, or the dimpled surface of a golf ball rendered in silk. It's the kindest, most organic way to add texture.

Parameters

Count
Number of spots on the surface. Many small spots create an all-over dimpled texture; few large ones make bold focal bumps.
Fill
Packing density. Higher fill crowds spots together for full coverage; lower values scatter them sparsely.
Spot Falloff
The gradient curve from center to edge. Low falloff = hard-edged discs; high falloff = pillowy, dome-shaped bumps that melt into the surface.
Spot Size
Radius of each spot element. Oversized spots overlap into a gently rolling landscape.
Blur
Additional smoothing on top of the gradient falloff. Double-softens the already-soft spots for extreme gentleness.
Seed
Rearranges spot positions. Each seed places the raindrops in a different pattern.
Resolution
Texture resolution in pixels. The gradients are smooth by nature, so moderate resolution works well.
Ratio
Aspect ratio of the texture. Keep near 1.0 for perfectly round spots.
Depth (mm)
How tall each bump rises. Negative values turn bumps into dimples -- instant golf ball.
Tile U / Tile V
Tiles the spot field around (U) and along height (V). Spots tile smoothly thanks to their soft edges.
Rotation
Rotates the spot layout on the UV map.
Width Gain
Subtly varies line width over spot peaks for gentle extrusion texture.
Flow Gain
Adds a touch of extra flow on spot centers for physically taller bumps.
