Tutorial 11: Gyroid Lattice Lamp

Combine SDF Cylinder (a containing volume) with SDF · Gyroid (TPMS implicit field) using SDF Intersect, then Marching Cubes to mesh the isosurface—the 3D-printing lattice look (aerospace, lamps, light-weighting).

What you'll learn

Prerequisites

Step 1: SDF boolean

SDF Intersect

Intersection = max of the two SDFs—only regions inside both the cylinder and the near-zero gyroid shell survive.

Step 1

Cylinder, Gyroid, Intersect, Marching Cubes

Add SDF Cylinder and SDF Gyroid. Wire cylinder sdfIntersect a, gyroid sdfb. Smoothness 0 = sharp. Add Marching Cubes; wire intersect sdfsdf. Set size and center to bound the part (the embedded file matches the cylinder). Tune resolution.

Step 2: Mesh export

Step 2

Output Preview mesh

Marching Cubes meshOutput Preview mesh; export STL for printing with adequate infill in the slicer (the mesh may be delicate).

Outcome

A lattice lamp or filter form only practical with implicit modeling and dense enough resolution.
