Soap Dish

A figure-8 (bilobate) soap dish with a rectilinear infill base and a non-planar spiral wall. The two lobes share a narrow waist, and the outer corners sit higher than the waist to let water drain toward the center. The toolpath alternates infill angles (45° / 135°) on the base layers, then spirals upward with a height profile that rises and falls around the perimeter.

See Predefined Models for the general workflow and how to select this model.

Parameters (sliders)

Parameters

Length
Total dish length (L1) in mm. Sets how elongated the figure-8 is along its long axis.
Width
Total lobe width (W2) in mm. Width of each lobe at its widest point.
Waist Width
Width at the narrow waist (W1) where the two lobes meet. Smaller = more pinched figure-8.
Outer Height
Wall height at the outer lobe corners. The highest point of the non-planar wall.
Inner Height
Wall height at the waist concavities — set this lower than Outer Height so water drains toward the waist.
Material Thickness
Layer height / extrusion height (EH) in mm. Set equal to your nozzle diameter for stable adhesion.
Width/Height Ratio
Extrusion width to height ratio (EW/EH). Controls line width relative to layer height.
Overlap
Lateral overlap between infill lines (0–40%). Higher overlap gives a denser, water-tight base.
Base Layers
Number of rectilinear base layers, alternating 45° / 135° crosshatch before the wall begins.
Quantity
Number of dishes generated side by side in one job.

How it works

  1. The figure-8 outline is built from two circles of Width/2 radius, joined by tangent lines that narrow to Waist Width.
  2. Base Layers are crosshatched: odd layers at 45°, even layers at 135°, giving a solid bottom for water resistance.
  3. The wall then spirals upward with a cosine height profile — Outer Height at the two lobe tips, Inner Height at the waist on either side.
  4. A single continuous toolpath means no seams on the wall.
