Point Attractor

Distance-based scalar field driven by an attractor point. For every sample in the input PointArray, outputs a scalar that peaks at the attractor and falls off with distance.

Pair with Modulate Path / Modulate Toolpath for localised pinches, bulges, or ripples that respond to a moveable point.

Sockets

samples (in)
PointArray / Path. Required — the positions to evaluate the field at.
attractor (in)
Vector3. The focal point (default [0, 0, 0]).
radius (in)
Float. Falloff radius — the distance at which the field reaches zero (for linear falloff). Overrides the parameter when connected.
strength (in)
Float. Peak magnitude at the attractor. Negative values pinch, positive values bulge.
values (out)
PointArray — the scalar field sampled at each input point, stored in the x-channel.

Parameters

Falloff
Shape of the radial decay. linear, inverse (1/(1+r)), inverseSq (1/(1+r²)), gaussian (exp(-r²/σ²)). Default: linear.
Radius
Distance at which the field fades to ~0. Default: 20.
Strength
Peak magnitude at the attractor. Default: 1.

Falloff Shapes

linear
Field = strength * max(0, 1 - r/radius). Sharp cut-off at r = radius.
inverse
Field = strength / (1 + r/radius). Smooth, never exactly zero.
inverseSq
Field = strength / (1 + (r/radius)²). Faster tail than inverse.
gaussian
Field = strength * exp(-(r/radius)²). Smooth bump.
