Loft Profiles

Stack and stitch two closed profiles into a tube-like mesh, with optional intermediate rings for smoother transitions. Perfect for lamps, bottles, cups — anything with a distinct "top silhouette" and "bottom silhouette".

Path. Required — profile A (≥3 vertices).

Parameters

Ring verts
Number of vertices each ring is resampled to. Default: 48. Both profiles are arc-length resampled so their vertex counts need not match upstream.
Intermediate rings
Number of rings between A and B, inclusive of the endpoints. 1 = just A and B; 2 = A, mid, B; etc. Default: 1.
Cap A / Cap B
Close the bottom and top rings with a centroid fan. Defaults: on.
Closed profile
Stitch the seam of each ring. Default: on. Turn off for open profiles (extruded open sheets).

How It Works

  1. Resample both profiles to Ring verts points by arc length.
  2. Linearly interpolate between them to produce Intermediate rings + 1 rings.
  3. Stitch rings into a quad strip.
  4. Cap the first and last rings with simple centroid fans when enabled.

The centroid fan is a cheap triangulation that works great for convex profiles. For concave profiles, pre-triangulate upstream instead.
