Gear Teeth
Semicircular cylindrical cutouts arranged radially around the shape. When viewed from above, each gap between teeth is a half-circle — like a milling cutter was pushed into the edge. The teeth have hard 90-degree edges where the flat tooth surface meets the curved cutout.
The Twist parameter rotates the teeth along the height, creating helical or spiral gear patterns.
Parameters
Diameter (mm)- Diameter of each semicircular cutout in mm (0.5–30). Controls both the width and depth of the cuts — a 6 mm diameter creates cuts 3 mm deep.
Teeth- Number of gear teeth around the circumference (2–60). More teeth create a finer-pitch gear.
Twist (\u00B0)- Helical twist from bottom to top in degrees (\u2212720 to 720). At 0, teeth are straight vertical. Non-zero values create spiral gear patterns.
How It Works
For each vertex, the effect determines the angular position relative to the nearest tooth boundary. If the vertex falls within a tooth gap, it computes the signed distance to the semicircular cutout profile and displaces the vertex inward along the ring normal. Vertices on the flat tooth surface remain at their original radius.
The cutout geometry is a true half-circle, so the gap profile is always smooth and round. The Twist parameter adds a height-dependent rotation to the angular coordinate before computing the tooth boundary, which spirals the entire tooth pattern.
