Growth Curve
The growth curve scales how strongly stacked effects apply as you move from the bottom of the print to the top. Think of it as a global envelope: the profile still defines the silhouette, but the curve decides whether ripples, noise, or bumps are full strength, muted, or inverted at each height.
Where it lives
Open the Effects tab in the left dock. The growth curve editor sits above (or alongside) the effects list—the same place you reorder modulators. Editing the curve updates the preview so you can see strength fade or intensify in real time.
Axes and meaning
- Horizontal axis — height — Runs from 0% (bottom of the printable range) to 100% (top). This is not the profile graph; it only describes where along the part the multiplier applies.
- Vertical axis — curve value — Acts as an offset multiplier on effect strength. 0 means “use the effect’s baseline strength as authored.” Positive values push stronger displacement; negative values weaken or can invert certain parameters depending on the effect. The engine maps this spline into per-layer scaling for supported modulators.
Editing the spline
- The curve is a Bézier spline in (height, value) space, with smooth or sharp corners and draggable handles—same interaction model as the main profile spline.
- Named presets (Flat, Ramp Up, Ramp Down, Ease In, Ease Out, S-Curve, Bell, Spike, Steps) give one-click starting shapes; you can drag points afterward for custom blends.
- Legacy projects that only stored polyline points without Bézier handles keep straight segments until you edit and save the curve, at which point the full handle-based model is stored going forward.
Interaction with per-effect range
Each effect card can also define an effect layer range (start/end % of height) that limits where the modulator is active. The growth curve and layer range multiply together: the curve sets strength, and the range clips the vertical window. A common pattern is a narrow active band (for example 30–70% height) plus a bell-shaped growth curve so the effect ramps in and out inside that band.
Typical recipes
- Fade in — Start the curve near zero at the bottom and ramp up so texture appears gradually on a stable base.
- Fade out — Keep the middle strong and taper toward zero at the top for a clean finish under a Top Cap or plain lip.
- Accent band — Combine a mid-height effect layer range with a bell or spike preset so detail is concentrated on one section of the vessel.
Quick workflow
- Open Effects in the left dock.
- Add or select the modulators you want (order still matters for how geometry builds).
- Shape the growth curve with presets or manual points until strength matches your intent.
- If needed, tighten Start / End % on individual effects to limit where they run, then refine the curve again.
